Introduction In the world of entertainment, there are various factors which strengthen the foundations of the entertainment sector. Some of these important factors are film and television industry. When we talk about film and television industry, we must also talk about those factors which make this industry successful. The factors which make it successful are not only direction staff, production staff or artists but also those schools of training or institutes which train and develop those factors. These institutes are really doing a great job in producing such professionals who play a vital role in the success of any nation’s television industry. In order to make those training institutes, such modules should be added in the list of subjects, which could make a significant impact on the training of professionals. Media studies Before probing into the issue of including a suitable module into the subject of film and television studies, we must first get to know what media studies actually is because in this way we would be able to better understand the issue. Manohar (2008) states that media is a double-edged sword which means that there are positive effects of media as well as negative influences of media. So starting with media studies, it is that set of academic studies which takes into consideration the study of media, effects of different types of media, importance of various forms of media, their applications and mass media. When we talk about media studies, we actually talk about various forms of media and their significance in the real world. Lusted (1991) found that the areas or parts in which the media studies can be divided are production process studies, sociological analysis of ideological effects and critique of artistic styles. When we talk about media studies, we must also mention here that there exist certain regulations regarding media industry in any country. Dizazzo (2004) found that regulations regarding media productions are of critical importance in the media industry. Studying these areas of media sciences, an individual can become able to fully understand the basic concept of all fields related to media studies. Rayner, et al., (2001) found that media studies, in the present era, is playing a critical role in advancement and development in the fields of mass communication and mass media. Module to be included If we talk about including a module in the film and television studies, then that module would be photography. This module would be included because of its importance and impact on this specific field of study and because of its very close relation with this field. Allen and Hill (2004) found that television studies is a combination of several areas related to the field of media. We should also say that film and television studies must be included in all institutes which teach media studies as a course in media technology. Let’s now discuss the impact and significance of photography on the field of film and television studies. Bignell (2004) found that television studies is a factor of critical importance in the field of media industry. Photography Before going into describing the importance of photography in the film and television studies, we should first get to know the basic perception and meaning of photography. Starting with the term photography, it is that process which captures the movements of any specific thing, human or a scene and stores them in a sensitive medium like a photographic film in order to make them available for the photographer when needed. Photography means to catch all special movements or occasions in an individual’s life by recording radiations on an electronic sensor. Story (2004) found that it is the process in which light patterns which are reflected from various objects bring into activation an electronic sensor during a fixed time exposure in a camera. This is usually done by the photographic lenses which are embedded in a camera. If we talk about the uses of photography, we can say that it is a multipurpose field. In the present era, the applications of photography are on almost every field of life. Some of the main fields in which photography is being widely used are: It is being used by tourism industry It is being used to capture special moments of wedding ceremonies, and It is widely being used by the media sector Photography also gained the interest of people from various departments of life like scientists, engineers, movie makers, directors and artists. All of them make a wide use of photography while performing various activities related to their fields. Story (2003) found that scientists make use of digital photography in order to record some movements and then to study them. Engineers study photographs and make use of them while making structures and architectures. Movie makers also make a great deal of use while making any specific movie by capturing various sorts of scenes. Directors also enhance their abilities of direction by capturing and then analyzing several aspects of different scenes. So, we can say that photography comes into play in almost all types of fields and it is not only enabling the individuals to capture movements but also helping them to utilize those captured movements wherever applicable. If we talk about its involvement in films and television sector, we can say that without proper photography implication, none of the film or television channel can succeed as the directors and producers would not be able to enhance the defects of their previous productions because of no recording available for them. The study of photography is also of extreme importance for the students of fashion designing as they become able to capture various new styles of fashion into their cameras and can make use of those pictures for the purpose of increasing attraction of their creations. Photography helps the people of today’s world by not only letting them to save their special moments but also in using those moments in their future life. Importance of photography in films and television sector If we talk about adding photography as a module in the subject of film and television studies, we can say that it would be of extreme help for the students of film and television studies. The students would be able to know the importance of the field of photography in the studies that they have been doing. It should be added as a module for the following reasons: It will enhance the creative skills of the students The students will be able to capture moments and use them in their creations The students will be able to learn the relation between cinematography and photography Photography also helps in advertising of films and television serials, and Imaginative and innovative skills of the students will also be enhanced Photography can be used as a tool of creativity in the studies of film and television. It is because the captured moments of any specific scene will be very beneficial for the directors and film makers in order to make certain amendments and improvements in their upcoming movies or other productions. Without a proper use of photography, none of the films or television serials can be successful, so it is very important to teach the module of photography under the subject of film and television studies in order to guide he students about an effective and proper use of photography. Success of any movie or television production depends upon the nature of photography which is done while creating that specific movie or television production. When the students will be taught how to use their photographic skills, it will result in a successful production. It is very critical for the students of the media studies to know about an effective and appropriate use of photography because of its deep relation with this field of study. Nelmes (2003) found that film studies is undergoing the phase of transformation because it tends to house various latest manifestations of the moving image. As we know that the relationship that exists between the cinema and photography has been investigated methodically by the scholars of the film studies, the basic manifestation of the global media has made the notion of the film in problems that has in turn altered the cinematic knowledge. The importance of photography can also be known by the fact that the digital image taken by the camera reflects and represents the picture’s relation o the real world because of the increase in the ability to shop photographs which are celebrated in the visual culture. Photography, a necessity in film studies Talking about the importance of photography in the film and television studies, we can say that without the module of photography, students can never become able to fully understand the mechanism of development of films and television productions. Photography is essential for creation of any specific movie or television production and in the present era, it is being done by the use of digital camera. Busch (2007) found that digital camera has become an essential item for the purpose of recording any special moment related to any sort of production. The study of photography has radically changed over the last few decades and it has become an essential part of the film and television studies. If we want to teach the students about skills of an artist, we must show them the movies or still photographs of the work done by some artists in order to let the students know the work proficiently. And all of this will be done only if we have some recordings in our hands and those recording will only come through the use of some digital media. Photography has a lot of significance on not only film and television studies but also in practical training the students of the media studies. Affects of not including this module If we talk about the affects which may come if we don’t include this module into the film and television studies, we can say that the students will not be able to completely understand the basic concept of the study. The students will not be able to know hoe to create such film or television production which could attract the public towards itself. This is because photography is of extreme importance for the success of any movie or television productions. So, when the students will not know much about this field, they will not be able to apply the knowledge and skills related to photography in their creations and when there will not be any sort of quality photography, the film or television production will not be able to catch the eyes of the public. So, it is of extreme importance for the teachers of film and television studies to include the module of photography in the subject considering its deep relation with the study of films and television. Conclusion Summing it up, it can be said that addition of module of photography is important in film and television studies because photography has got deep roots in the studies of film and television and it should be included in such studies considering its significance and importance in the field. It can also be concluded that success of any film or television production depends on the quality of photography which has been done while creating the production. So, when the students will be taught the basic techniques of photography, they will be able to make use of that knowledge and create a quality production. In case the students are not taught the concepts of photography, success of any sort of production can never be achieved. References Lusted, D., 1991. The media studies book: A guide for teachers.
