Child Observation Paper Introduction A Day Care which is a Laboratory School in our community college is completely free from destruction; it is perfectly designed for children under seven years of age. Children are secured while inside the rectangular air-conditioned room. There are interactive materials available anytime for recreation or playtime purpose. Tables are situated at the center of the room when there are activities to do but they are put aside during playtime. The room is very conducive; the environment is safe for very active children. There are about 20 children interacting with each other and two adults that serve as teachers and caregivers of the children. The room has a big glass window wherein, children can easily view the farm. That Laboratory School has a small farm behind for children to roam around and exploration of nature. During the day, there are enhancement activities and training given to children to facilitate their learning and help them grow smart and healthy. Children use to play with each other, solve physical problems using interactive games and materials, and do creative works and taking appropriate responsibilities to develop personal discipline and responsible behavior. Here, children learn to mingle with one another; and "my child" is one of them. My child is a 4 year-old boy. He attends day in a day care at our community college. He seems to be healthy physically and emotionally and is quite well adjusted showing no sign of any developmental concerns. He is pretty doing well in a day care; he interacts normally with other children and seems rather smart as he knows his way around a computer screen already. He is curious on anything new to him and is always willing to try or investigate objects that catch his attention. He always finds things very interesting although the toys he plays on are already old. He is active, likes to play and look tireless all day. As I observe, my child seems to manifest both the physical and emotional healthy condition as he has no problem in interacting with others and is showing quite remarkable positive attitudes towards everything which a normal healthy kid would likely to have. Over-all Impression of His Development My child is quite following a normal developmental stage. He seems to be excited on new things and his mind full of wonderful imaginations of things that are not there. This manifests in his works of arts like drawing, painting, and building blocks. He is a bit intelligent, he likes doing things on his own with out asking the help of the teacher. He is excited to find out what will happen after trying to fix one object to another, he is very independent. While other kids are roaming around their teachers to explain to them what to do, my child easily get the instruction from the teacher and start doing it all by himself with no fear of mistakes. His positive interaction with others as I observed him, show no sign of developmental concerns or problems. He interacts casually and participates well in the group. He is confident in himself and is rather smart in doing the right thing. He even suggests something to his playmates what to do to make the game really much interesting. This positive social attitude of my child may not simply part of the developmental process but I guess, a manifestation of advance intelligence for a four year old kid, maybe a normal reaction of a growing child being curious about many things. Socialization Inside the room, the children have all the opportunity to interact with other children and adults. In this case, I saw my child intermingle with other kids of his age and with his teachers. My child seems to have developed a good self-esteem; he did not have difficulty adjusting with the new environment as well as with his interpersonal relationship. He is well-adjusted despite new faces and authority. My child, in my observation, feels a sense of belongingness and quite confident about his accomplishments for the day. Other kids would show hesitant of their actions for fear of embarrassment. Also, for sometime, my child assumes leadership role if asked by their teacher, and likes doing it with a big smile. Creativity My child shows creativity by his drawings and paintings. He can create objects out of clay, building blocks, paper and crayons activities, sticks, and other interactive materials. Sometimes, during play time, he would pretend someone else like a superman. His imagination of something unreal helps him create images which reflect in his actions. Curiosity My child loves to investigate on things which reveal his curiosity. When the teacher shows an insect in a bottle and explains it, my child pays attention to that with his entire mind. After the school, he kept asking me about that, and he would even love to see that in the book. His attention is easily attracted to strange objects that they see in the small farm behind the Laboratory School. I would see him picking up worms using a stick and have them move. Problem-Solving Skill My child is also in problem-solving skill. The problem-solving skills come along their creativity, as I observe my child; he loves to play games that give challenge to him. He loves to play the building blocks creating different forms and concepts. He likes to play Puzzle and games that require both physical and mental exercises appropriate to his level. Use of Language My child is articulate; he can express his thought in a concrete idea and sentence. Sometimes, he slow to speak just to focus his attention on what he is doing, but he keeps asking endless questions if he is so curious about something. At his age, he learns to generalize highly imaginative statements such as, "Why did God create ants if ants are biting children" Most of the time, my child participates well during interaction related to what they are discussing especially when teacher is asking their opinion on something. He would even volunteer or raise his hand to offer some suggestion. Emotional and Social Development My child has high emotional intelligence; it is shown the way he interacts with his environment, especially with children who annoy him during the day. He loves cooperative play, enjoy other children's company, and also play loosely organized group games. He is perfectly adapting himself in the company of others. Also it is manifested the way he takes in small responsibilities given to him by his teacher. My child is also kind to other kids even with girls; he offers toys to start a play. He can play alone, but he would love playing with kids around him. He shows off his different emotions, like if he is anger or happy. He is also has defiant behavior. Conclusion Sometimes, we adult especially parents tend to be punitive of our kids in their mistakes. Most of the time, adults are ignorant of the developmental process that a child is undergoing. This child observation paper is very important for it helps us adults understand young children of their behavior. Sometimes, we find it unacceptable and respond to it offensively by hurting or humiliating the kids. But, kids are innocent of their actions. They merely respond to the development in their physical, social, emotional life. Everything that they act is according to normal pattern of developments as established by renowned Psychologists all over the world. My child is blessed because he has parents who support his growth since the conception until he gets matured. He is sent to a good school that promotes his development. I like the way the school is doing for my child, he learns a lot from them. It is very important that parents understand that children's whole being develop rapidly, and without the aid coming from guardian, some development may be hampered because of lack of proper ignorance due to ignorance or neglect.
