? Nursing: Organizational Structure Task Nursing: Organizational Structure Introduction Communication is a central pillar in fostering growth and delivery of services in health institutions. Health institutions especially nursing homes, which that seek to deliver fair, affordable and superior services, should develop appropriate communication procedures through the establishment of effectual organizational structure without unwarranted bottlenecks. This means that institutions should integrate conventional communication channels enhance execution of activities and address health concerns. Medical scholars assert that, health institutions deals with delicate matters of human life that need to be solved based on superior coordination and understanding. However, coordination and conveyance of basic information at various levels based on patient status cannot be achieved without proper development of the organizational chart. Institutions are obligated to develop ideological, and performance oriented coordination charts that present clear channels of operation and execution of duties with limited confusion. Organizational charts provide a blue print of the institution’s management and control of valuables including definition of every individual’s responsibilities. It is through the conventional organizational structures that embrace diverse elements of quality services, that safety and superior healthcare can be delivered to patients. The paper explores the imperativeness of the organizational structure in enhancing provision of quality healthcare, effective communication lines and cultural differences that influence performance in health corporations. Organizational chart As noted, organizational charts present clear procedure of authority, thus, enhancing operations and execution of duties. It is a central pillar in improving healthcare standards and ensuring that patient’s safety is upheld (Schafermeyer, 2010). This section evaluates operating chart of Medstar’s hospital administration that applies to the organization’s nursing centers and homes. In particular, the structure adopted in this study is a flat system of control where responsibilities are designed categorically at diverse units of operation. The chart recognizes every individual from the directors to patients with the aim of enhancing performance through collective responsibility (Schafermeyer, 2010). The system enables delivery of superior nursing care to patients and designing of relevant policies that are sustainable. It provides a clear channel of communication that advances cohesiveness and team building that is crucial for realization of quality principles. There are various types of organizational charts, which institutions that focus on performance should adopt to allow the delivery of quality services to clients. Organizations with flat and tall organizational charts and institutions adopt an operating system that matches its capacity and potentials. Although, the charts hold diverse potentials, the flat organizational system is the most conventional structure that fosters coordination at various levels. The structure as indicated above facilitates participation of stakeholders’ in policy formulation and ensures that cordial relations. Health institutions should develop flat structure of administration that presents equal opportunities to stakeholders and ensure effective control of services. This is imperative in delivery of health care services since treatment of patients involves wide participation and consultation (Schafermeyer, 2010). The consultations are undertaken through participation of the directors who design quality policies, doctors, administrators who perform admission duties, nurses and subordinate staff. These individuals should coherently to facilitate realization of superior services to patients. Type of organizational structure, and creating an environment that supports clients The chart presents a credible channel of communication that is paramount in an institution to enhance service delivery. Effective coordination requires proper structural set up that is not discriminatory. The structure provides a viable system of coordination that facilitates democratic engagement that allows innovation while caring for the patient. Innovation and creativity are relevant qualities that superior structures that embrace participation of stakeholders yield (Greenwald, 2010). It gives room for every opinion that boosts operations and improves patient care. The system also ensures proper control and accountability at diverse levels where pertinent information is safe. This facilitates a culture of responsibility that is required under the health code of ethics and practice. The chart ensures that conducive environment of engagement is achievable since hostility in service delivery is detrimental. It is imperative to indicate that health institutions that seek to advance quality in service delivery should adopt viable structures of operations that facilitate proper formulation of policies, control of resources and coordination of patient treatment. The use of information systems, communication methods, and a decision making-ability Schafermeyer (2010) noted that, information systems are infrastructural set ups that enhance coordination and delivery of pertinent services to patients. Adoption of the contemporary systems of information guidelines is crucial in enhancing safety of individuals. Most authorities are presently emphasizing superior integration of information systems as a performance measure at diverse levels of the institutions structure. This is to improve coordination, enhance operating ideas, treatment of patients and control of possessions. In particular, the system would foster coordination and flow of information from top officials to junior stakeholders (Greenwald, 2010). Coordination is bound to ease between the directors, managers, doctors, nurses and patients who contribute in ensuring quality Medicare. The directors of Medstar’s hospital formulate operating policies and guidelines that employees should obey. The policies are communicated effectively to various business unit officials to advance performance. This is achievable through integration of superior IT system that holds the capacity of conveying timely and credible information. The system is crucial as indicated since it enables faster and superior provision of assistance to patients. According to Greenwald (2010), communication is vital in providing superior health care. It is through communication that patient’s details are captured for action and policies are available. Therefore, institutions should develop clear communication channels and understanding capacity to facilitate relevance at every level of patient care. To achieve quality in the health sector, absolute understanding between patients and health officials is paramount. Consequently, there must be adequate coordination of doctors and nurses including subordinate staff. This is to enhance service delivery through mutual understanding. There are formal and unstructured communication techniques that institutions can adopt depending on the nature of their operations (Green, Bowie & McGraw, 2011). Formal communication aids delivery of structured information that should be specific and factual to aid decision making while unstructured communication may not adopt clear procedures but must hold relevance. In the chart, the best communication method that should be adopted is the formal system of communication that authenticates every detail. This is to ensure a high level of accountability and execution of duties based on quality ideals. Evidently, communication should be effected in clear language that is not discriminatory to any party since due to its imperativeness in aiding decision-making. Various lines of communication, reporting, and observation There are vertical and horizontal lines of communication that propel conveyance of operation policies and guidelines in health institutions. The adoption of the lines should consider the institution’s structure to eradicate possible administration complications. Horizontal line of communication best suits the structural set up adopted for this institutions that operate under democratic ideals (Green et al, 2011). It enables prompt exchange of ideas and conveyance of basic patient specifications and control of resources. As observed, this line of communication holds the potential of revolutionizing performance in the health centre. It eliminates leadership wrangles and inferior control mechanisms that may affect the provision of superior nursing care. It contributes in building cohesiveness and team spirit that is essential in the provision of holistic services. Poor management of power and authority may prove detrimental without proper coordination. It can lead to coercive rule that may compromise individual’s capacity to provide exemplary services. The real leaders in this setting are the directors and doctors who hold the responsibility of ensuring development of superior organizational structure that is culturally relevant and socially acceptable. Integration of social and cultural influences of the community Developing an institutional chart without considering social and cultural elements of the community members may prove detrimental. Community members are the immediate individuals who hold interests in the operations of any setting with an aim of achieving relevant incentives. Health institutions should deliver quality and affordable nursing care to community members including other services for example counseling (Green et al, 2011). It is prudent and ethical for community officials to participate in the decision-making system to present the needs of the society members. The chart as presented recognizes participation of diverse group of individuals where adequate communication and representation of patients is guaranteed. The institution’s operating chart seeks to provide a favorable communication channels to enhance community participation since superior healthcare is not achievable in isolation. The influence of generational differences in organizations Cultural practices are shared norms that guide operations and execution of activities in institutions. Institutions have divergent cultural practices that define their communication lines, policy development, quality ideals and recruitment process (Greenwald, 2010). Noble cultural practices that steer performance form part of the institutions guiding principles and every stakeholder is expected to conform to such practices. Although individuals or employees originate from diverse generational backgrounds, they should embrace the institutions norms that define amicable ways of engagement (Green et al, 2011). The alignment of such practices may occur through formulation of favorable and socially acceptable policies to set viable code of engagement. The structure presents clear levels of authority, guiding principles and obligations of the respective office holders that delimit unwarranted conflicts based on diverse grounds. It also clears possible complications that generational differences may present. Conclusion It is prudent to conclude that organizational charts set the pace of quality, fair and affordable Medicare service delivery. It ensures development of clear channels of communication, coordination and control of resources that are paramount in enhancing the quality in the health sector.
