Extract of sample "Critical Thinking"

The editor attacks Deed using her conditions. The editor makes a conclusive argument about the condition of Deed without having a solid proof of the arguments. The editor therefore did not use facts to justify the actions of Deed to keep her conditions to herself but attacked her directly by claiming that she attempted to remain silent about her condition despite being a public figure therefore describing here as hypocrite. The major argument was if Deed’s condition was as a result of unhealthy eating.

Instead the author concludes that diabetes have been caused by this behavior while this is not the truth as it may be caused by other factors. The editor also directly made a direct conclusion that Deed opted to remain silent so that she can retain her loyal fans. This was a direct attack on personal affairs. This is because as an editor one could have made an investigation especially through talking to Deed so as to find out the reason why she decided to keep quiet concerning her condition.Fallacy ad hominem is committed when an opponent tries to counter your arguments by attacking you.

As an editor, using personal affairs to make conclusive remarks leads to poor critical thinking. The editor therefore, attacks the character of Deed i.e. being secretive to advance the argument instead of trying to disapprove the truth and soundness of the arguments. Inclusion of personal characteristic to the argument looks like the editor is trying to gain an upper hand in the argument. In conclusion the use of personal qualities and body condition by the editor as evidence against the opposition is just an attempt to distract the party from the topic therefore qualifying to be ad hominem.
