I would add that after some deliberation, I chose the advertisement for a Patek Philippe watch to be analyzed and interpreted for the purpose of this exercise. In media terminology, denotative analysis is called the first level of analysis and usually relates to just a normal description of what is physically shown on a page. It only takes into account objects as they are placed on the page, as well as their size and color etc. the placement on the page is also given importance in a denotative description.

Other things such as choice of font, font size, the mixture of different fonts to create a combined or pleasing effect and the choice of colors can also be deliberated upon. The father is on the telephone but has a pleased expression on his face. It is clear that he is full of love for his son. The costumes that both father and son are wearing may be classified as smart casual to business-like.

Certainly the boy is clad in a full sleeved shirt with cuffs turned out and a waistcoat. He has on a pair of full length trousers. His hair too is styled and combed
