The article, ‘How Managers become Leaders was written by Michael in June 2012. The article examines how an individual can manage different business avenues effectively in order to assume the overall responsibility for management. Dr. Michael gives a story Herald, a sales executive in Europe. Herald, starts his career as a products’ assistant manager in the plastics section of the chemical company (Watkins, 2012). He is transferred to Hong Kong to assist a new plastic unit center where he attains a promotion as a Sales Manger because of the increase in the company’s sales. His woes start after he obtains a promotion as the head of the resins unit in the company. Herald performs poorly in his new position due to the abrupt change of roles in the company. He performs exceptionally managing a unit and poorly while managing an enterprise. According to Michael (2012), the seven seismic shifts would help Herald to adapt effectively to his new role as a manager of the resins unit. In addition, Michael (2012) cites the change of career avenues contributes greatly to the change in Herald’s performance at a senior level. According to the article, the business executives should be able to move through various stages of management in order to succeed in their career. The management stages include moving from specialist to generalist, tactician to strategist, problem solver to agenda setter, analyst to integrator, warrior to diplomat, bricklayer to designer and supporting cast member to lead-role. This transitional ladder expounds on the phases successful executives undergo in various business operations (Watkins, 2012). Michael D.
