Extract of sample "The Application for an Internship at IBM"

IBM did not specify the list of qualifications required for an internship. They hired both undergraduate and graduate students in their internship and co-op programs. IBM instead develop their candidates to become suited for their organization which makes me interested to apply.

IBM or International Business Machine is an American multinational consulting and technology company that manufactures and markets computer hardware and software. Its product lines include computers to nanotechnology and are the number 2 largest US firm in 2012
In 2012, Fortune ranked IBM the No. 2 largest U.S. firm in terms of several employees (Fortune, 2012).
My strategy in applying for IBM is to show them my potential as a would-be professional. I may not be the brightest student but I would show them that I have leadership skills, that I could work well with others, and that I could easily adapt to any situation in addition to being trainable. Employers now are more particular in these “soft skills” knowing that modern companies are more collaborative. In addition, I would show them how much I wanted to work in a prestigious company such as IBM letting them know that I am going to stay with their company for the long run to build my career.

This is to express my intention to apply for an internship in your company. I saw your online advertisement and your university recruiting for internships caught my interest hence this application.
My name is Yanyu Zhou and I am already in my third year in college at Pennsylvania State University taking up a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Management. I have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 and was among the academic honorees in the SY 2014. I have been active in our university clubs such as the honor society and diversity club. I can easily adapt to any work situation and particularly enjoy working with people.
I also have work experience as an Assistant Diner Manager and Diner Supervisor at Hershey, Pennsylvania. My responsibilities included assisting the restaurant manager in managing the operation of the store, organizing interns and new waiters to take before-work trains, preparing reports about the waiter's and staff’s performance, and distributing recent tasks and events to each supervisor. Before being promoted to Assistant Diner Manager, I was a supervisor with the responsibility of overseeing the staff’s daily work. In both responsibilities, I have displayed leadership and the ability to work with others.
I am also actively engaged in the school’s extra-curricular activities. I organize shows in our church to be able to raise funds. I have also organized high school students to do voluntary work in local communities.
I intend to apply for IBM's internship program because I would like to work for your company in the long term. IBM is a very prestigious company that trains its staff well to reach their full potential. Should you find interest in my application, I can be reached at (123) 456 7890 and I will be more than happy to elaborate on my resume in an interview. Read More
