BUSINESS PROCESS MANAGEMENT College Business Process Management Business process management is a contemporary management strategy whose principle aim is to inject efficiency into all business operations. Business process management requires integration of human knowledge and technology in building an organization that runs smoothly by saving on time and reducing human errors. Through this approach, it is possible for an organization to achieve optimum profits and ensure work efficiency which is crucial if organizational goals have to be accomplished. The main reason why this approach has won the favour of many managers is because it has worked in eliminating symptoms of business dysfunction such as slow service rate, poor data management and inefficiency in customer service. While this process is crucial for any organization, it is surrounded by a number of challenges and disadvantages that make it hard to implement. However, in the face of current business competition, it is crucial for every organization to focus on business process management to ensure that they remain competitive through efficiency in accomplishment of their goals and objectives. Business process management is a strategy that is concerned with streamlining business operations to ensure that they are optimally efficient. In other word, it is referred to as business process optimization through technological strategies. The BPM is based on the principle that if the organizational functions are accomplished with high efficiency, it is possible for an organization to achieve higher profits (Bhasin & Parrey, 2013). BPM ensures that there efficient information processing, project monitoring, risk measurement and service delivery within the organization. There is a great link between the line of business and the information technology in developing efficient business systems. With the current proliferation of technology, BPM has become an important aspect in deploying information technology in streamlining business operations. For instance, software applications are currently used to process large data to ensure that a company can use a wide range of data to make business decisions. Software systems are used to monitor business operations to ensure that the projects remain within the schedule, which is critical in following the critical path. In large business organizations, technology is used to streamline communication within the organization among the employees. Efficiency in business operation is responsible for increase in the organizational profits. Business process management has both advantages and disadvantages especially in the implementation stage. One of the advantages of BPM is that it increases the project innovation, which is necessary in increasing the organizational profits. Deploying technology in data processing helps to ensure that the organization makes more informed decisions, which have positive consequences for the organization. Relying on large data helps a manager to make accurate decisions that are well informed by the previous data. Information processing is a crucial aspect of the business as an organization depends on it to predict the future trends in business. Technology allows business managers to coordinate their employees and to react to arising problems within the organization. This way, it becomes easier to react to problems more promptly and to reduce the possible consequences of delaying in making corrective decisions. On the other hand, BPM is complex process that required optimal skills during its implementation. Therefore, it comes along with a lot of expenses at the take-off stage as an organization has to acquire new equipment and skilled personnel to implement these strategies. Thus BPM requires that an organization dedicate a lot of resources to its implementation (Manfreda, 2014). Also, if abused, BPM can be a dangerous strategy for a business entity. For instance, when technology is abused within an organization, it can be a source of business efficiency as it may become a challenge for many to use. Before deploying a business process management strategy, it is crucial to identify the signs of business dysfunction. This makes it possible to use this approach to solve real business problems within the organization. One of the signs of business dysfunction is poor business communication. For instance, if there is only one manager to should authenticate discounts within an organization, their unavailability means this service has to wait longer. Thus, business operations delay is one of symptoms of business dysfunctions that can be solved using BPM strategies. Another symptom of business process dysfunction is poor project monitoring and coordination. Within a business entity, monitoring is crucial function of the management that ensures that all operations follow the drawn plans to ensure that at the end the organizational goals are accomplished. In a dysfunctional business system, the projects run out of schedule in terms of cost and time, which makes it hard to achieve the designed objectives and goals. Lastly, a dysfunctional business system is characterized with the inability to predict business risks and strategies to overcome them during the project implementation process (Rohloff, 2013). Therefore, business process management is a strategy to eliminate some of organizational dysfunctions that inhibit success of business goals and developments. In conclusion, business process management is a contemporary approach that managers deploy to eliminate business weaknesses. As the organizations develop, it becomes more complex to handle its operations and hence delays and poor communication reduce business efficiencies. For an organization to succeed, it needs to implement business process management approach to overcome these challenges. Currently, technology integration is one of the principle ways of implementing BPM within an organization. Technology helps to save on both time and cost and to provide more accurate predictions of business risks. While BPM has helps an organization to become more efficient and be able to reach its business goals more easily, it is a big challenge for organizations during the implementation stage. Technology aspect of BPM requires that an organization dedicate a large percentage of its finances to the implementation process, which may increase organization expenses in the first stage. In addition, it requires hiring professionals who can implement information technology in an efficient manner, which is challenge for the organization. On this ground, BPM is an important approach that organizations should consider while injecting efficiency in the business operations, and seek ways to overcome the challenges that are associated with its implementation.
