Most of the companies have however put in place little measures to promote the retention of the UAE nationals. This makes it difficult for them to work for more than three years in an organization. It is only a few UAE companies that have been able to retain the UAE nationals for more than three years. This problem is common both in the private and the public sector. Various factors contribute to these problems and it can be attributed to the companies as well as the individual factors. Some of the companies are aware of this problem and have put in place some measures to ensure that encourages the attraction and retention of the UA nations in the first three years.

Most of the UAE nationals will work longer for an organization if they remain in the organization in their first three years of employment. The United Arab Emirates is one of the GCC countries with the lowest number of nationals in the workforce. This is also considering the UAE nationals are only 11% of the total population. In terms of the labor force, the UAE nationals account for only 5% (Sidani & Al Ariss, 2013). This is therefore an indication that the workforce is dominated by expatriates.

A lot of job opportunities exist in the United Arab Emirates for the local people who are qualified. The demand for the local people in various sectors is high but the supply is low. The UAE nationals, therefore, prefer working in organizations that offer the best working conditions. It is also important to note that the first three years are usually the most important for the employees. It is during this time that they are able to fully understand the organization. It also within the first three years that the employees are able to know whether they can have a future in the organization or not.

The long term goal of the employees is usually dependant on their satisfaction with the organization. It is also important to note that the first three years are important for employees who want to advance their careers.
