Are you willing to pay for the installation and maintenance of the sitting park Question #2: Contingent Valuation method for environmental damage Introduction On 08 April 2007, one of the trucks of A&B company that carries insecticide crashed and spilled hazardous chemicals into the creek of Dullsville. Before this accident happened the creek was full of fishes and marine life. There are certain provisions in the law that indicates that these non-market lands such as this creek still have their values and are compensable according to the law. Survey Design and Development The survey questionnaire is designed to be administered to people living near the creek. The main purpose of this survey instrument is to get the measure the impact of the chemical spill to the people residing near the creek. The questions will be asked personally by the interviewer to the chosen respondents for this study. Research Design The research will be undertaking various phases before it reaches its final stage. In order to ensure the validity and reliability of the survey instrument, the researcher will conduct a pilot testing and series of interviews to selected people that are directly affected by this problem. Key Issue The researcher considered various issues while designing the survey and this includes choice of sampling technique, appropriate survey mode, type of method of payment and appropriate choice of elicitation method. The study will employ simple random sampling technique to determine the sampling population for the research under study. The interviewer will have a personal house visit to the chosen respondents home to conduct personal interview and the questions on this survey are single bounded dichotomous choice (referendum). Valuation Questions and Survey Execution Procedure The interviewer will visit the chosen participants house and ask them the prepared sets of questions. First and foremost, the goals of the study should be explain to the respondents in a clear manner so that no confusion will arise. Respondents must be reassured of the confidentiality of their answers. Statistical Treatment The data that will be gathered in this survey will be subjected to different statistical treatment to measure the environmental damage that the chemical spill have caused. Specifically, the study will employ mean WTP to obtain frequency distribution of estimating bid curves and weibull probability distribution to analyze the data. Result The result of this study will be used to compute for the total amount that AAA must pay in order to restore the condition of the creek back to its original condition. The damages it caused to the creek will take many years to restore, the result of this paper will then say how many year and how much should they actually pay. Question #3: Contingent Valuation to Asses Damages to Natural Resources The contingent valuation model is the best choice to measures the damages caused by pollution. Through the use of the CVM it is possible to compute for the estimated existence of the values of the natural resources caused by polluters. It can be done through estimation of the total value of the recreation site using the contigent valuation method and deduct from it the use value estimated using TCM. The most effective method to conduct the CVM is using personal interview because it will generate good information regarding their WTP. Although this method is time consuming and much more expensive, it is guaranteed to give quality information. At one point, it can be said that CV is an expensive project, but it pays off. It can save the government for future unnecessary expenses and help save the environment and the people living on it. Read More
