?Assignment 10 a. Conclusions The conclusion of the research brought out the need for embarking evidence based research as the only viable way of ascertaining results for experimental research of this nature. This is because the conclusion confirmed that indeed given a group of soft drinks, the best and most valid way to determine the specific brand that each soft drink is to taste the soft drink. Most often, people are tempted to believe that it is possible to judge a brand of soft drink by its appearance and packaging. Meanwhile, the research has showed that that approach may often be deceptive and that with the possibility of imitation, it is only appropriate that the right brand is found through taste (Jones, 2005). b. Other approaches considered for the study. Apart from the experimental approach whereby the researcher gave respondents the opportunity to attempt identifying the brand of soft drinks by tasting them, there were other approaches that were used in the study other than experimentation. For instance the researcher resulted to the use of approaches such as survey data collection whereby the researcher randomly collected data from respondents through the use of a questionnaire. This particular approach was used in order to seek the views of respondents on specific issues that bordered on authenticating the brand of products. It was for instance found out if respondents were even bordered at all on getting the specified brands of soft drinks they ordered for when they entered the cafeteria. c. Confounded variables Certain confound variables that may limit the internal validity of the study may include ingredients used in the production of control soft drinks that were used to compared experimental drinks. This assessment is made against the backdrop that even if a person tastes a particular soft drink, the person may still be wrong in determining if the soft drink served is the particular drink he or she ordered for. This is because most soft drinks are made with ingredients that are very similar. This affects the taste of soft drinks. To a large extent therefore results might have been affected in the sense that respondents who were not able to identified specified soft drinks could not do so because of the similarities in ingredients used in the preparation of the soft drinks. d. Limits to the external validity of your experiment As far as subjects are concerned, the limit to the external validity of the experiment is from a point whereby respondents who have been regular patrons of the cafeteria, which was used in the study. Clearly regular patrons of a particular cafeteria have better chances of identifying with soft drinks served than those who are not. With reference to operational definitions, the limit was on for respondents to be able to tell whether a served drink was the one they requested for or not. There were no intermediate responses. The respondent was therefore either right or wrong in an outright manner. There were no clear cut limits on the experimental situation because the very drinks that were used as control qualified to be used as experimental drinks. It was only a matter of telling which drink one tasted. e. Theoretical implications of findings Theoretically, the results point to the fact that the very sense organs of the human body may best be utilized if each is made to play the very role it was meant to. For instance patrons of soft drinks have always thought that they could judge drinks by their appearance (sight). However when imitating labels were made and placed on other soft drinks for the sake of the experiment, there were patrons who were not able to tell that the drinks they had been served were not the once they ordered for. However upon tasting the drinks, they were able to tell that the drinks they had been served with were not the ones they ordered. This could be transferred into management and into any working environment whereby the theory of division of labor should always be made to work. In situations whereby round pegs are put in square holes are made to exist, tendencies are that efficiency at the work place would be lower (Alessandro, 2004). f. Evaluation of Results from Logical Perspective From a logical perspective, the findings proof the need for authenticating elements and products before use. This may apply to the freedom that people should have in questioning product server. Everywhere that a person goes, be it to the pharmacy or restaurant or even the classroom, people should be logic even to raise questions that go long ways to authenticate and confirm that products and services they ask for are what they receive. Such logical moves would be more reasonable than being presumptuous as our assumptions may not always be right. g. Generalization of Results As a survey, the findings can indeed be generalized to larger populations even outside a cafeteria. In settings and populations such as pharmaceuticals, the results could still be held as valid. For instance with the outbreak of imitation on the market, it is always important that patrons of products such as medicine, paints, electronics, food, meat and even clothes take pragmatic steps to ensuring that they are given value for money and that their exact requests are made. If cautious steps are not taken to ensure that one gets what he or she demands, the tendency of being served with something harmful may be imminent. It is therefore very feasible to generalize the findings and results of this study. h. Practical implications your findings The practical implications to the findings include the fact that experimentation should be the best way to authenticate result. This means that assumptions may not be a viable approach in making realistic conclusions on brands of products. Assumptions are not practical approaches to authenticating products and should therefore be discouraged. Practical experimentations should however be promoted at all levels of finding authentic results. i. Consider and discuss the need for further work on the topic. This research was conducted with much confined to a University Cafeteria and to the use of soft drinks only. However, generalizations have been made with the results. Further research work is therefore advocated to repeat the experiments in other settings such as the pharmacy, paint manufacturing factories and food centers. Results from such settings would indeed help in authenticating results and ensuring that assumptions of the current research are confirmed. Future studies should also include larger sample sizes to give a better representation of any defined population. It would also be appropriate to undertake the research at a point where respondents are not confined such as a university campus. A supermarket where patrons are from much different locations is most preferable. This would lead to encounter with respondents with much varieties of variables. REFERENCE LIST Alessandro I. (2004).
