Humility Action Plan Humility is important for all human beings hence the practice of self-forgetfulness should be evident in every society. This includes those cultures that emphasize the relative worth of individuals based on their athleticism, appearance and achievements. In order to overcome the pervasive drive aimed at producing self-enhancement we must cultivate humility in ourselves. Below is my action plan that will enable me become more humble in my life. At all situations, I will admit bias.

This is because my self-perceptions may not reflect the truth or reality. The first step towards humility is to realize that we are proud and the process of overcoming bias is in itself an admission of pride. It provides a way of admit vulnerability. For all actions done or words spoken, I will seek for an accurate feedback even when the feedback could be relatively negative. This honest feedback from others will provide me provides with a strategy for assessing my strengths and weaknesses, including pride.

Just as I can laugh at the failures of others, I will learn to laugh at myself. The inability to laugh myself is a sign of arrogance. …………. (155) advises that although my actions could be important and make a difference, I must admit weakness and not take myself or my actions too serious. Humility involves realizing we are part of a whole hence I will always be willing to learn from other cultures. This includes the recognition of interdependence which builds a sense of belonging. The result will be the ability to admit my frailty and uncertainty.

I will continually cultivate my other strengths because humility is produced as their by-product. These include practicing gratitude, portraying empathy and compassion. ……. (156) states that they make us to realize oneness or equality with others and make us kind and understanding towards others. I am a very small part of a greater whole hence I will always experience awe. Awe enables us to recognize the existence of things larger than us and creates the need for accommodation because it makes us to realize that our experiences cannot fit into our mental structures.

Owing to the fact that a person is a mere speck in the large universe, I will assume a cosmic perspective of myself. This involves admitting that I have limited powers and that my existence is very short lived. One should portray healthy self-respect by focusing beyond oneself. My worth will therefore not be my driving concern, instead, I will shift my attention from myself and invest genuinely in others. When dealing with children, I will practice authoritative parenting. This involves approval of commendable behavior and this leads to internalization of standards of conduct, and eliminates dependence on external feedback.

At the same time, I will promote secure attachment which lays ground for humility for example, security enables a child to tolerate both positive and negative feedback. At all situations, I will admit my weaknesses and accept any kind of feedback about myself without overreacting to any of them. This modeling of humility will enable me to always appreciate the beauty and excellence around me, and which I am part of, while reminding me that I am not superior or inferior to my peers. Humility is not supposed to make me feel insignificant ashamed or helpless.

Therefore, I will demonstrate a balance when fostering humility. This includes reducing self-focus or gaining a different perspective on self without feeling that my self has been damaged. Works Cited.
